Student Data Journals

Student Data Journals are used to help students keep track of their own learning.

Students will record various weekly grades and will keep up with their progress in each classroom.  We will spend one afternoon each week for about 1 hour recording our data for that week and charting student progress.  As an individual, students will graph their own progress.  As a class, we will graph the classroom averages so that as individuals, students can gain an understanding of where they are compared to the class as a whole group.  Students will only view their own grades.  No names will be listed on the class averages chart.

The purpose of student data journals if for students to begin taking a leadership role in their learning progress.  It is one aspect for parents and teachers to be on the same page, but if students can begin being involved in conversations about their school work, they begin to take ownership for their own learning!

This is a new process for everyone involved.  We will be implementing these journals little by little throughout this year and may have to tweak several things before we feel we things just the right way.  Please be patient with us and know that we have your child's best interest at hand during this process.

I am excited about adding this in my classroom and about the endless possibilities for students to grow through this process.

Data Journals will be sent home weekly for you to sign!
